Where it came from
A few years ago I saw someone render his whole life as a streamgraph. Early on, most of the width was himself. As he got older, more and more of it went to health and family.
In 2023 I picked five things I wanted my life to be made of: fitness, investing, reading, programming, love. Each one widened over time — into health, finance, growth, creating, family. For about a year I tried to use them as a plan: give this quarter to one of them, force some balance over a longer cycle. It never held. The plan was always written by a version of me who didn't know what the next three months would feel like.
So I stopped planning and started recording. Every night, one question: which of them did today touch? Then it clicked — I was never reviewing those five at all. I was reviewing the small things I'd quietly filed under each one. Slept early, cooked, sat down with my finances, shipped something, spent an evening with my family.
A dimension isn't something you do. It's made of the things you do. So this app only ever asks you to check in on activities. The dimensions are rules over those, and the long picture assembles itself.
